Casio Releases its Third Limited Edition G-SHOCK in Collaboration with BURTON Snowboards

10 April 2018 – CASIO has furthered its partnership with Burton Snowboards with the release of the limited edition GG-1000BTN-1A, based on the G-SHOCK MUDMASTER from the perennially popular MASTER OF G family. This marks the third collaboration between the two brands; CASIO and Burton Snowboards first worked together in 2013 for the G-SHOCK’s 30th anniversary.

Founded in 1977 by Jake Burton Carpenter, Burton Snowboards was one of the pioneers that shaped the development of snowboards and snowboarding. The company initially produced modified snurfers (the predecessor of the modern snowboard) that sported improvements such as bindings which secured the rider’s feet to the board, with Carpenter making them by hand in his own garage. Equipment aside, Carpenter was also instrumental in cultivating the sport’s ecosystem as well – he was, for example, credited with getting local snowboarders access to ski lifts, which were previously only open to skiers.

Today, Burton Snowboards is the largest snowboard brand in the world; CASIO’s work with Burton Snowboards reaffirms the brand’s commitment to equip athletes and recreational snowboarders and skiers alike with tough, shockproof timepieces where they are needed the most. To that end, the MUDMASTER GG-1000BTN-1A is equipped with CASIO’s twin sensor technology featuring a digital compass and thermometer, and comes with a mud- and dust-resistant structure built for life on the slopes. Other functions and features include a worldtimer, multiple alarms, a chronograph, and a countdown timer.

The release of the MUDMASTER GG-1000BTN-1A coincides with both the G-SHOCK’s 35th anniversary, as well as the upcoming Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships. “G-SHOCK has been a great partner of Burton for years and we were honoured to create a watch to celebrate their 35th anniversary,” said Greg Dacyshyn, Creative Director at Large for Burton Snowboards. “Working with them is always a fun and dynamic process because they give us a lot of artistic freedom. This time around we went for a classic utilitarian vibe, featuring duck camo prints and alert orange accents. The end result is a very cool watch that strikes that balance for both outdoor and urban adventures.”

To mark the collaboration, a special video was created to highlight some of Burton Snowboards’s favourite moments on the road. The video underscores the brand’s ethos of “No Bad Trips”, and is accessible via YouTube video.
