Casio to Release First Camera in New TR Mini Series—With Multiple Lighting Effects for Taking Self-Portraits for Social Media

Popular TR Brand Adds New “Beauty Tool” with Innovative Shape, Ring LED Light and Square LCD

October 5, 2017

TOKYO, October 5, 2017 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today the release of the TR-M11, the new TR mini camera under the TR brand of digital cameras, which are popular as tools for capturing beautiful self-portraits.

In 2011, Casio released the EX-TR100 camera with a rotating frame for free and flexible photo-taking and Make-up Mode, which uses proprietary image processing technology to capture beautiful self-portraits. The bestselling camera created a real stir in the market, and Casio followed up by releasing other models one after the other, starting in 2012, each one with more advanced features for taking beautiful self-portraits. These cameras have won a strong following, particularly among young women.

Owning the new TR-M11 is almost like having a portable, personal studio; it delivers lighting effects that enable the user to capture memorable and flattering self-portraits for social media. The camera is equipped with nine LEDs in total: eight around the lens and one below the LCD. The multiple LEDs work together with Casio image processing technology to make the most of the lighting effects, delivering beautiful self-portraits with flattering effects that make the skin look bright and fresh, and sculpt or slim the face.

The TR-M11 comes in a distinctive round shape designed around a ring light that provides uniform light to the subject’s face from any angle. The camera is set to take square portraits, thus eliminating the need to crop rectangular images and making it perfect for social media. The shape resembles that of a makeup compact case, with a clamshell design that opens up so that the user can compose the image, like checking a mirror. The sleek camera fits in even a diminutive palm for maximum portability.

Casio has developed a new user interface specifically for the TR mini series. The main features can be accessed just by swiping the screen, while colorful icons and simplified menus make the camera fun and intuitive to use.

The TR-M11 creates whole new photo-taking possibilities for a broader group of users.

Main Features of the TR-M11

Ring LED light with various lighting effects delivers stunning self-portraits

The camera has a total of nine LED lights including eight arranged in a ring pattern around the camera lens, and one positioned below the LCD. The multiple LEDs work together with Casio image processing technology, which has undergone extensive refinement, to maximize the lighting effects and capture beautiful self-portraits with a variety of looks.

Five lighting modes are included. Fresh mode illuminates all nine LEDs to make skin look brighter and fresh. Sculpt mode illuminates the upper three LEDs to lend a sculpted look to facial features. Slim mode illuminates the upper and lower three LEDs with the top- and bottom-center LEDs working at maximum brightness to produce a slimming effect. Two Shadow modes illuminate either the three leftmost or three rightmost LEDs, at the user’s choice, to create arresting side-lit portraits that highlight the subject’s expression.

The TR-M11 also offers Catch Light mode, which uses the ring light to create a specular highlight in the subject’s eyes. The eye-catching sparkle creates even more flattering self-portraits that users will want to share on social media.

Distinctive design for women makes taking self-portraits even more fun

Palm-sized “compact case” shape with clamshell design

The clamshell design is perfect for taking self-portraits, opening and closing like a makeup compact case. The camera automatically powers on when the lid is opened, and is ready to take photos immediately. The small, round shape fits nicely in the palm and offers wonderful portability, while the closed clamshell protects the lens and LCD when carried in a bag.

Square self-portraits great for social media

The camera is set to take square photos, eliminating the need to crop images when posting to Instagram and other social media. The square LCD is perfect for composing square self-portraits, and the wide-angle 21mm lens takes natural-looking self-portraits that capture the face and shoulders when held at arm’s length. The self-timer can be used to capture self-portraits from a greater distance.

New user interface optimized for square screen

Casio has designed a new user interface just for the TR mini series. Users can swipe to access main features, and choose settings for Make-up Mode using a menu list that rotates like a dial. The colorful icons and simple navigation make the user interface intuitive and fun to use.

Great features make it even more fun to take beautiful self-portraits

The TR-M11 inherits the leading features for capturing beautiful self-portraits that Casio developed for the TR brand and other digital cameras.

Make-up Mode for beautiful self-portraits with a variety of looks

Casio has further refined Make-up Mode to add gloss to pupils and lips, and to automatically detect acne and pimples and make them less noticeable in pictures. Users can finely adjust levels for Skin Tone, Smooth Skin, Face Brightness, Sculpt, Dark Circles Remover, and Slim. Built-in intelligence controls the image quality based on the skin condition and the different shooting situations such as outdoors, indoors, backlighting, and night scenery, so that skin looks consistently attractive regardless of shooting conditions or skin condition.

In addition to these effects, Casio has added two new settings for greater diversity: Tone, which adjusts the tone of the entire image, and Mole Remover.

Make-up Art function for capturing photogenic images

This function lets users try out various shooting effects while still enjoying the beautiful skin appearance of Make-up Mode. In addition to the make-up effect for human skin, the function also allows a choice of seven shooting effects. Pink applies sweet pink tone to the entire image. Vivid raises only the background color saturation for a pop art feel. HDR emphasizes contrast and contours only in the background producing a painting-like finish. Elegant makes a photo look like it was taken right next to a window. Foggy adds a softer ambience to the image, Fairy gives the image feminine qualities, and Nostalgia lends a sentimental, wistful mood to the image.

EXILIM Connect automatically transfers images to a smartphone

By installing the EXILIM Connect app on a smartphone, images taken with the camera can be automatically transferred to a smartphone for posting right way to social media. The app can also display the live view from the camera on the smartphone, to compose the image before pressing the shutter.
