TOKYO, January 22, 2016 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today that it will release two new flagship models in its lineup of electronic keyboards, the MZ-X500 and MZ-X300. Loaded with a diverse range of preset sound patches and rhythm patterns, these top-of the-line instruments are suitable for all kinds of musical genres.

Both new flagship keyboards come with built-in speakers driven by dual 20-watt amplifiers for a big, powerful sound. The MZ-X500 features 1,100 preset tone patches and 330 rhythm patterns, while the MZ-X300 has 900 preset tone patches and 280 rhythm patterns. With these abundant sound and backing-track options, users can not only select musical instrument patches to fit a performance style, such as guitars or basses, but also choose from many different rhythm patterns ranging from standard beats used in rock, jazz, and pop music to ethnic rhythms from various regions of the world, including Latin American and Indonesian styles.

Suitable for practically any musical genre, both the MZ-X500 and MZ-X300 are capable of 128-note polyphony, enough to ensure that notes can be played smoothly without cutting out during a performance, and feature digital signal processing (DSP) effects that have been programmed based on 20 types of algorithms. Also fitted with a four-band parametric equalizer for precisely adjusting tone, both keyboards offer everything that a user would hope for to perform at his or her very best.

In addition, Casio newly equipped the MZ-X500 with 16 touch-responsive multi-pads for broadening performance capabilities. The pads can be used to trigger preset patches and samples created by the user, as well as to play back musical phrases, allowing the user to enhance a performance with percussive hits and additional melodies while also playing the keyboard. Auto accompaniment chord progressions can also be assigned to any of the 16 pads, enabling the user to play chord progressions just by striking a pad. This eliminates the need to play chords continuously with the left hand so the user can focus on playing melodies.

Casio equipped both the MZ-X500 and MZ-X300 with a touch panel-capable large color LCD to enable better operability and more intuitive control. This lets users call up and modify any of the vast number of sound patches and rhythm patterns with ease.

Main Features of the MZ-X500 and MZ-X300

Highly realistic sounds and rhythms to allow for a diverse range of musical styles

  • A huge selection of sounds and rhythm patterns for playing any kind of musical genre
Casio loaded the MZ-X500 and MZ-X300 with 1,100 and 900 preset tones, respectively, giving users a vast number of sounds to choose from. This makes it possible to play any musical genre, as users can select from all kinds of instrument sounds to suit the performance style. Likewise, both models come with a large selection of rhythm patterns—330 in the MZ-X500 and 280 in the MZ-X300—ranging from standard beats used in rock, jazz, and pop music to ethnic rhythms from various regions of the world, including Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Sounds and rhythms from Latin America and Indonesia are especially prominent, with both models featuring 8 types of Brazilian instrument presets, 17 Brazilian rhythms and 14 Peruvian, Bolivian and Colombian rhythms in total, along with over 40 instrument presets and over 40 rhythm patterns characteristic of Indonesian music.

*Includes presets and patterns available for download free-of-charge on Casio website.

  • Newly developed MXi sound engine
The Multi-Expressive Integrated (MXi) sound engine, newly developed by Casio, helps users to perform at a high level by delivering impressive 128-note polyphony, DSP effects based on 20 types of algorithms, and a four-band parametric equalizer for precise tonal adjustments.

  • Virtual tone-wheel organ for creating the sound of vintage organs
Casio technology reproduces the distinctive tonal variations and harmonic leakage of tone-wheel organs, capturing the fat and deep sound that only those classic instruments could produce.

  • Useful synthesizer sounds for performing and composing
The MZ-X500 reproduces the sounds of classic synthesizers, and includes a monophonic mode for single-note leads and a portamento mode for playing fluid lines in which notes gradually slide in pitch to the next note played. It also includes Hex Layer mode for playing ensemble parts, which lets users stack up to six tone patches to generate a more powerful sound.

Touch-responsive multi-pads on the MZ-X500 to create more performance options

  • Audio samples triggered by pads while performing
Pads can be assigned to audio samples as well as drum and percussive instrument sounds available among the unit’s diverse preset patches, giving users more options for embellishing songs during a performance.

  • Pads can be used to play back musical phrases for expanding performance possibilities
Pads can be used to play back either preset musical phrases or phrases created by the user. Furthermore, when chord progressions in auto accompaniment mode are played, these phrases can be automatically modified according to the chord notes. If a guitar part is assigned to a pad, for example, the user can play it back while performing just by striking the pad, creating a full backing track that would be impossible to play simply by using the keyboard.

  • Chord progressions can be assigned to the pads to enable improvising
By assigning any of the 16 pads to auto accompaniment chord progressions, users can arrange song structures and focus on playing melodies with both hands, opening up more possibilities for improvising while playing.

User interface designed for excellent operability

  • Color LCD with touch panel capabilities to enable intuitive control
The abundant sound patches and rhythm patterns can be called up intuitively by touching the large 5.3-inch display.

  • Newly designed for more comfortable performance
All of the control buttons and indicators on the MZ-X500 and MZ-X300 have been laid out on the user’s side. To ensure smoother control, Casio also improved the visibility of the LCD and the operability of the pads and knobs compared to previous models.
