In Brazil it's in a pleasant season just before the summer. Brazilian Grand Prix brings enthusiastic atmosphere into whole Sao Paulo every year, but the Grand Prix circus had to met a fickle weather this weekend. Heavy rain and strong sunshine were mixed up in only a few hours. Only thing Sebastian could do was laughing at such an unpredictable weather
“I think today was the day they predicted rain," the young German said. “It didn't rain much, so maybe that means rain for Sunday?"
He made perfect weekend in Suzuka and succeeded in bringing the chance to the championship. But he still needed to win the race at least. Even he could do it the chance for the championship depends on the rival's results, he just need 5th place. It's tough as he said. But he never looks back at the past as we've seen this season and insists that there's no pressure because his target is really simple.
“It doesn't help. It's done. Looking back I had five races where I didn't finish, so of course it doesn't help but we cannot change it now, so nothing to regret. The only thing I can do is win. The pressure is on the two people in front of me. For me it is pretty straightforward. You don't have to be a genius to work out that from now on we simply have to win the two races and hope that those two mess it up!"
For the victory and for the title, he just wanted to start from a front grid position. But his qualifying was messed up with the heavy rain that caused an hour and 40 minutes delay. 16th was the grid he'd got. There was no word to describe this situation other than “unlucky". Sebastian threw his steering wheel away and couldn't control the anger. His voice was low-pitched and we could understand how high he expected from the RB5's speed this weekend.
“Of course I'm not happy,“ he said without any smile. “It's very disappointing. It should have been better, but it was difficult in the conditions."
“There was a window when the circuit was at its fastest, but we couldn't use it as we were in traffic. Afterwards, when we were in clear air towards the end of the session, it was raining hard and there was too much water. We went into a pool, not a race track today!"
Sunday was fine weather ironically. Sebastian demonstrated his edgy drive and make the race his overtaking show. But all he could do today was 4th despite his effort. The title had gone away from Sebastian.
When he brought his car to the Parc Ferme and walked away from that, he looked really disappointed and calm. But as soon as he'd got back to the pit garage and hugged with the team crews, he couldn't hold his tears any more. Mortification of losing the title. Relief of being released from huge pressure of long championship battle. The banks of his emotions collapsed and tears shed his heavy bearded face with various feelings.
“All in all it was good race," he said. “Starting from the back and finishing fourth. I think fourth was the maximum we could do today. Without the problems in yesterday's qualifying, we could have won the race, but we didn't so there's not much more to say. At one point I was praying for rain, there was the smell of rain, but it didn't come. Congratulations to Jenson [Button] and Brawn GP, I think they did the best job this year."
This bitter experience will give him much strength to him and he will show us a new face. He's definitely looking forward to the new challenge of next year.
