Finally, Suzuka has come back to Formula One after three years' absence. This is a historical and challenging circuit ranked with world famous circuits like Monza or Spa. It has classical style layout and it requires the drivers' talent. Plenty of high speed corners and natural ups-and-downs. It deserves the highest praise from the Formula One drivers who love “speed". Sebastian knows that well with an experience here in 2006 when he was the BMW Sauber's third driver.
“This circuit is amazing," he said. “Especially the first sector with esses, uphill, it's beautiful. If someone tries to make a beautiful circuit or tries to build one, it would never be like this. It is made by God's hands, I would say. It's totally natural and I think it's made for Formula One cars, because it's amazing to see how much speed you can go there, it's all fourth, fifth gear, it's really high speed. You maybe have one of these corners on another circuit or two if you're lucky. Here you have five, six, seven in a row to start with and then a couple more."
He is deeply impressed with Japanese fans' support. It's hardly impossible to find such a country that has so many hot fans.
“I think the Japanese fans are special,“ Sebastian admired. “On Thursday, I think we had more spectators her than at some other occasions. The people are very enthusiastic and passionate about race and I think it's fantastic!"
Last week's Singapore was a nightmare as he lost the chance of victory by the mysterious penalty and red-flagged qualifying even though he showed his speed. So he came to Suzuka determined to revenge. Friday became a waste of time because of fickle rain but Sebastian's face became expressive like the fine sky from Saturday. His natural speed and talent shined on this challenging circuit. And he even had luck this weekend among a lot of other guys' accidents. He could be the pole sitter without any interruptions by yellow flags or red flags.
“It's quite difficult when you get a little bit too wide on that kerb, you're basically just a passenger and by the time you come back, you're not able to get rid of speed. If you start looking at the barriers I think you will soon have an appointment with them because there's not much run-off and the wall is pretty close."
“Obviously it is quite confusing, it was a strange session. It can help you or hurt you, similar to last week. This time I think we were on the good side. We expected to we competitive but we did not know how competitive. The car worked fantastic. Quickest in Q1, Q2 and Q3, only one run each, was pretty straightforward, pretty good."
No one could beat him. No one could even challenge him. This is the first victory since the British Grand Prix. He raised his fist again and again, and expressed his emotions with whole body.
“When I crossed the line, I looked right to see the team and celebrate with them and looked to the left and saw the grandstand, all the people going crazy. Maybe I was a little bit too slow for TV coverage on the way back to the pits, but I didn't care! I was enjoying the lap and obviously screaming with happiness over the radio!"
It's only two races to go. He still have believe the hope for the championship.
“I will fight until the end, until the last breath," he declared. “Anything is possible. The bottom line is that we're here to fight!"
