RACE REPORT

In the night view of tower blocks of Singapore, the flood of 3 million-watt lights is the track of this race. Twenty cars color the stream with their speeds. The only night race of Formula One in the world came back here.

Heat and humidity are not only things annoy the drivers. They need to wake up in midday, work in the evening and go to bed early in the morning. In the other words, they stay in European time without adjusting to the six hours lag. Sebastian visited the factory in UK on Tuesday then he arrived in Singapore on Thursday. But he was full of energy in the evening.

“Yes I'm staying in European time," he said. “It's true some of the people are struggling but it's OK for me. It's a bit strange to wake up in daylight and have breakfast, and I've just had lunch. Now I have to stay up very long time by I get to sleep. But I'm not so tired and according the European time. It gets cooler in the evening so the night race is better because it's very very hot like Malaysia in the daytime!"

He was 26 points behind the Championship leader when he arrived in Singapore, the 4th last race. It means that there is a possibility of losing the chance of title on Sunday. Sebastian and the Red Bull Racing needed to make a last-ditch effort. The only thing they need is victory. They brought a huge update to the RB5 and used the practices fully without saving the Engine mileage. “The car is not so bad. We're the bottom of the timesheets in Monza so it's much better than the last race." he smiled after the first two practice sessions on Friday.

The street circuit in the center of the city is a difficult challenge for the drivers. But it is Sebastian's favourite. The reason is simple. This is where he can show his speed because it's challenging.

“I like this circuit," he says. “It is really great fun to drive here. The speeds are not very high, but it is a great challenge for all drivers. I really enjoy it. It is bumpy. You have to really push hard and use every bit of the circuit, so it is fantastic! After the practice the guys came to me and said ‘that was close on the wall'. I said ‘where?'. There was not one moment. I think there were a couple of moments I had!

The target in Qualifying was the pole position in order to win the race. It almost seemed to be done with the last attack but suddenly it was shut off because of the red flag caused by a crash. His disappointment was huge because he had strong will and chance. He hanged down his head.

“Qualifying is obviously very important. It is shame in Q3 that we did not get the last run on new tyres. But you don't score any points on Saturday. You have to finish the race. It is a very long race. It is quite warm in the car, so it will be tough."

Sebastian fought for the victory in Sunday's race and at least 2nd position was in safe hands. The rivals in the Championship were behind him so it was a good opportunity to regain some points from them. But the pit-lane speed limit broke the scenario. The best he could do after that was only 4th.

“There's a bit of question mark as to why I got the penalty, I mean, I had no reason to push at that point. I was surprised when I got the call on the radio for it."

Only three races are left for this season but Sebastian never changes his style of pushing. He never gives it up!

“I think history has shown many different examples of how it can finish over the years, with it going either way. At the next races our approach will be simple: we will try to get pole position and try to win, so it's very straightforward!"
