Formula One season goes into its real season for the first time when it gets back to Europe in May. Every team brings a lot of new stuffs to the opener Spanish Grand Prix as they’ve been developing for a few months targeting this weekend. Some of them looks like other car with a huge development. Sebastian’s RB6 also has been polished with hard works from the team staffs even though it looks similar to before.
How does it changed? When asked so, Sebastian said about the development on himself with laughter.
“I had a haircut. I saw Fernando had one to. I dropped more than he did, so I hope that our car will make a bigger step than his and we can stay ahead.”
It was obvious that they have the fastest car but it didn’t link to results in the first four races.
“One out of four was perfect” Sebastian said. “Two out of four we struggled for reliability, so we didn't finish where we wanted to and then another one out of four was chaotic. In the end I think we saved a couple of points at least.
“Yes, the first four races were a bit up and down. We had only one win but in the end that's history, we can't change it any more. We have to look ahead and that's all we try to focus on first of all tomorrow and then Saturday and Sunday and whatever comes after that is of zero importance now. All eyes are now on this weekend.”
Friday was OK for Sebastian but it didn’t last for Saturday. The place where he wanted to be was grabbed by his teammate. Pole position and controlling the race from there is the most important thing these days because it’s hard to make any overtake on the track.
Mark Webber smiled saying “Seb's had a solid run recently, but today was my turn.” Sebastian was not happy with the result but he didn’t give it up.
“Congratulations to Mark, he was unbeatable today” he said. Pole is always important. As Pedro said, where you put the car on Saturday will determine your race result by quite a bit on Sunday, but the race is there to find out and there are no points on Saturday”
Despite of Sebastian’s effort, Sunday was completely Webber’s day. He never passed his position to anyone and claimed his first victory of this season. Sebastian struggled a lot with car balance and finished third. “Mark was in his own league today, but for some reason I found it difficult.” In contrast to his disappointment, Webber was over the moon with this long-cherished victory. He even threw his helmet into the fans at last!
“Everything went my way today,” he smiled. “It was very good. It felt like the longest Grand Prix I've ever done though! With the other victories there has been a bit more going on as I wasn't always in the lead, but today was all about watching the lap board go down and my god, it just takes forever!”
“We had a good set up and the car felt good. It's a credit to all the guys, they worked like hell both in the garage and in the factory, they buried themselves in the last two weeks.”
Going into the European rounds, the season accelerates its speed from here. Will Red Bull’s “another league” speed dominate the championships? Will Sebastian become the leading part of them? Just in a few days. Monaco will welcome the F1 circus for the another battle.
