Aiming to create a look that would not go out of style, the Mr. Cartoon G-Shock (DW-6900MRC) features a navy-blue band and silver face. It is based on the DW-6900, which has been used as the basis for numerous collaborative models in successive generations of G-Shock watches. The DW-6900 is distinguished by its round graphic display gauges, nicknamed “the three eyes,” and is a very popular model among young devotees of street fashion. The watchband of the Mr. Cartoon model features Mr. Cartoon’s own representative clown motif. The clown has two sides, which can sometimes express good and bad, or silly and serious at the same time. The clown icon has appeal across cultural boundaries, and is often used in Mr. Cartoon’s work. As evidence of the collaboration, Mr. Cartoon’s name logo was used for the EL backlight.
Mr. Cartoon is a graphic artist who works primarily in Los Angeles, and is known for his pinstripe and clown motifs. He has provided designs under his name for apparel brands, and has released numerous collaborative products.
Casio decided to collaborate with Mr. Cartoon because the cool, underground image of his work is a great match for the G-Shock brand.
“I chose to collaborate with G-Shock because I have been wearing G-Shocks since I went to Japan in the early nineties. I have seen the evolution and the quality of the watch evolve into an iconic brand. It never goes out of style, I like the way that G-Shock is interested in connecting technology, culture and art,” said Mr. Cartoon.
