March 16, 2004, TOKYO, JAPAN – CASIO COMPUTER CO. LTD. announced today that it will launch the DT-X5, a new Industrial Handheld Terminal featuring an embedded Microsoft®Windows®CE.NET operating system, an impact-resistant, dust and splash proof body, and highly improved power-saving functionality. The DT-X5 will go on sale in the middle of July of 2004.

The DT-X5 wireless LAN model can operate continuously for up to 24 hours on a single charge (when using the large rechargeable battery). Also among the new line-up, CASIO has added the first scanner integrated handheld terminal to use the Windows CE .NET operating system and run on dry-cell batteries.

DT-X5
Both models use a newly developed, smaller and lighter construction, built using a magnesium inner case contained in a special resin outer-casing. This shock-resistant design allows the DT-X5 to be dropped from a height of up to 1.8 m without damage, and helps it to achieve operability in environments with temperatures ranging from -20°C up to +50°C. The DT-X5 also complies with the IP54 rating for dust and splash protection, making it ideal for applications in places with freezing cold or extremely hot conditions.

The DT-X5 uses Windows CE .NET operating system, ensuring that the device offers an open architecture for the software development environment. Both Bluetooth™ and infrared come standard, allowing communication with a wide variety of other wireless devices. DT-X5 can be used in many different applications including ordering and inspection for logistics and general stock control in warehouse applications.
*IP5x: Even though the intrusion of dust cannot be totally prevented, dust that might otherwise prevent smooth operation of the equipment does not get in.
*IPx4: No detrimental effect is observed even despite exposure to water splashed from any direction.
Major Features of the DT-X5
24 hour operation with wireless LAN built in (M10R)
Real time data collection and processing is made possible with the built-in wireless LAN. Approximately 12 hours of operation using the standard rechargeable battery, and 24 hours using the large rechargeable battery. (Cannot be used with dry-cell batteries)
Up to 140 hours of operation using dry-cell batteries (M10E)
Up to 140 hours of continuous use with alkaline batteries. This helps keep running costs under control and contributes greatly to a reduction in TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). Lithium Ion batteries may also be used.
Rugged durability
With a strong magnesium inner case wrapped in a tough resin outer-casing, the device can withstand a fall from up to 1.8m. The DT-X5 will operate in a range of temperatures, from -20°C up to +50°C, and complies with the IP54 rating for dust and splash protection, making it the ideal tool for a variety of tasks and environments.
Built-in Wireless communication
With Bluetooth™ and IrDA (infrared) as standard features, the DT-X5 can be used with other wireless devices such as portable label printers.
Monochrome LCD with backlight
With a large (128 x 160 dots) semi-transparent FSTN LCD, the device offers approximately 1.6 times the display area of the previous model (CASIO DT-900). This makes it much easier to display product information or master records.
Ease of Operation
The special construction and shape of the DT-X5 allows it to be held easily in one hand. Numeric keys are arranged in the same order as cellular phones, and characters can also be input using a scrolling method. In addition to the trigger keys at the left and right sides of the device, the main panel’s central button may also be configured for use as a trigger key.
Windows CE .NET
Microsoft®Windows®CE.NET is used as the operating system, enabling an open environment for application software development.
