GD-200

TOKYO, February 10, 2011 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today the release of a tough new model in its G-SHOCK lineup of shock-resistant watches. The new GD-200 features a resin wristband with a fiberglass insert for even greater durability.

Since the release of the original G-SHOCK watch in 1983, the brand has continued to evolve, with advanced functions, construction and design all based on outstanding shock-resistance. In 2010, Casio released the GW-S5600 with a resin wristband reinforced by a carbon fiber insert for outstanding durability. In an innovative design touch to highlight the strength of the wristband, Casio covered the band with clear resin to make the high-strength carbon fiber inside the wristband visible.

The wristband of the new GD-200 offers increased durability. This was achieved by inserting a woven sheet of fiberglass, the material used in surfboards and skateboards, when molding the resin wristband. With a strap-keeper loop made of nylon for superior strength, this new G-SHOCK watch offers the total toughness the brand is known for.

High-brightness LEDs have been used for the display backlighting, providing greater illumination and better face readability in dark locations. The new watch is also equipped with a 1/100-second stopwatch that can keep up to 60 lap times in its memory.

Since black carbon fiber was used for the wristband on the GW-S5600, the color choices were limited. The new GD-200, however, capitalizes on the silver color of fiberglass. Combining this with translucent colored resins, Casio has created an assortment of three colors — black, blue, and red — all boasting a design that literally shows the strength of the inner wristband material.
