TOKYO, March 18, 2010 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced today that it will renew its contract to serve as an Official Team Supporter of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship. Casio's sponsorship began in 2009, and features the G-Shock brand of shock-resistant watches.

The Red Bull Air Race World Championship is a series of international air races packed with dynamic action and speed. The world's best pilots compete to find out who can finish challenging obstacle courses in the fastest time. The races take place in different locations worldwide, and involve planes flying through a slalom course made up of 20 meter high inflatable pylons called Air Gates. Pilots must fly through the Air Gates in the correct way, as they careen through the course at speeds of up to 370km/h while battling intense gravitational forces of up to 12Gs.

As an Official Team Supporter, Casio backed Matthias Dolderer and his team in 2009. His team finished 9th in the World Championship, despite it being their first year in the competition. In the final race, his team took 3rd place to reach the podium, a performance that promises even greater success in the 2010 World Championship.

Like the pilots in the Red Bull Air Race, Casio's G-shock line of tough watches perform even under extreme conditions, thanks to a unique shock-resistant construction that withstands shock and vibration. Since its introduction in 1983, the G-shock brand has enjoyed constant popularity due to its consistent shock-resistant design, distinctive shape that exudes functionality, and its robust appearance.

Casio will also release a new lineup of Gravity Defier GW-3000 pilot's watches. The new models are resistant to centrifugal gravitational force*1 to a level that greatly exceeds that required for flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders (up to 15 Gs) using the steady-state acceleration test stipulated by the ISO 2669 Environmental Tests for Aircraft Equipment.

  • *1 Resistance to centrifugal gravitational force: The performance to withstand the outward force (centrifugal gravitational force) on an object created when it is rotated, a force which is proportional to the object's mass.

Matthias Dolderer

The Red Bull Air Race World Championship tests not only the skills but also the physical and mental endurance of the world's best race pilots. With its advanced technology coupled with shock-resistant construction, G-Shock is more than tough enough for these incredible sportsmen. Since the G-Shock image is so compatible with this unique sport, Casio has decided to continue its support for Matthias Dolderer and his team during the 2010 Red Bull Air Race World Championship.

Dolderer warmly welcomed Casio's renewed support. "I am very happy that Casio is continuing my sponsorship contract. This year I intend to demonstrate the toughness typified by G-Shock, and achieve even better results than last year."

With the participation of 15 world-class pilots, the 2010 season will kick off in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on March 26, 2010, before moving on to races in seven other countries. Casio is undertaking various sales promotion campaigns for the G-Shock utilizing its rights an Official Team Supporter of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship.
